Statement of intent

I have chosen the topic surrealism and emotion as these topics interest me. I have researched photographers such as Al Mefer and took inspiration from his Phantom of the brain series, strange leaves and deserts of the future. I think that Mefer's post disaster, alien like universe creates a bizarre but beautiful series of images. his clever use of light and shade with colour distortion and high saturation makes a unique and creates tenison in the photo.

I want to take these further into my work and use them as inspiration. I would also like to use emotion and nature havily in my project to get my idea across. As a final piece i would like to create something with nature that is menaingful and evokes a clear emotion.

After completeing my first photoshoot I decided to change my direction and focus on centering my project around the theme of my book. I will still use surrealism as my theme with a Southern Gothic style to emphasise the genre of my book: Psychological horror, madness and the paranormal.

Primary research

I asked people to read my blurb and answer questions on it so I can use it to inspire the direction my photography will take

-This work makes me think about mystery, loss and the paranormal. I want to know more about the notes and what actually happens. The work makes me feel excited, I'm eager to know more and i'm definitely curious to what could occur and the idea of obsession is quite scary especially after someone's death.

-This work makes me think about the unknown, how it creates an eerie atmosphere and how it an affect people mentally like with how it leads the character to an obsession with the mystery. It makes me feel chilled but also excited as I wants to know more about the characters and how the supernatural effects how they view reality.
